The bastide of Monpazier is an architectural treasure of the medieval period built thanks to the care of King Edward I of England. Rich of more than 32 historical monuments, it is ranked among the most beautiful villages of France. Once a fortified city, it has retained some of its guarded entrances, including the Saint-Jacques gate and the Notre-Dame street gate.

Explore the Place des Cornières

Around the Place des Cornières, the rectangular layout of the houses remains typical of the XIII-XVII century style. You can discover the market hall, its galleries with arcades, thechurch of Saint Dominique. The history of Monpazier is preserved in the Bastideum, in the convent of the Récollets.

The Castle of Biron

8 km from Monpazier, don’t miss a stop at the castle of Biron. The castle of Biron, seat of one of the 4 baronies of Périgord, gathers a great architectural diversity. Indeed, one can admire its keep of the XIIth, its buildings of the XVIIIth, while passing by the apartments and the Renaissance chapel. The site is open to the public all year round.
